12일 이집트 룩소르에서 발굴단원이 새로 발굴된 3400년 전의 조각상을 닦아내고 있다.

독일과 이집트 합동 발굴단은 최근 사자 모양을 한 고대 이집트 여신인 세크메트 조각상 17개를 찾아냈다.

사자머리에 여인의 몸을 한 이 조각상은 아멘호테프 3세의 사원을 복원하던 중 발견됐다.

화강암으로 만들어진 이 조각상은 왕좌에 앉은채 생명의 열쇠를 쥐고 있는 모습이며 보존상태도 좋다고 연구팀은 밝혔다.

세크메트는 고대 이집트신화에 나오는 파괴와 재생의 여신으로 당시 이 조각상은 권위와 웅장, 야성을 상징한다고 전문가들은 분석했다.
